Affordable Health Care

Many people in the USA are looking for more affordable health care owing to the continued increase in premiums. Although there has been a rise over the last few years in providing this service to employees, a number of companies are using this as an excuse for a cost cutting exercise. I know this because before 2006 I had a really good health care package with my company but it has got worse this year. Just before Christmas, the company announced some changes including the replacement of our, now to expensive, health care supplier.

Unfortunately, the old system didn't benefit everyone in the company but the new one would, it was claimed. Many people I've spoken to are happy with the new insurance and that I am just as well provided for. It's not that I'm against other workers getting a good deal but they are now taking twice the amount out of my salary so that my husband and daughter are covered. So basically in order for all the employees to benefit where I work, I have to pay double but my pay remains the same so I am actually taking home less.

I suppose my health care plan is still good but this new company is not as good as the old one. Many workers saw their paychecks reduce when this new affordable health care scheme come into force. I know this because my old plan paid all of my hospital expenses when I had my little girl just over 4 years ago. Compare this to the new health care plan and I would be out of pocket by over 4,000 dollars.

Keep in mind that although I would have to pay hospital fees, there is also the small matter of my co-pays as well. Luckily there are more and more affordable health care programs being created to help those that do not have any coverage. Single mothers, families working for companies that don't offer coverage, low-income households - they are all able to get low cost or even free health care. Unfortunately, there are always a few that want to ruin it for the rest and this system is prone to misuse.

I feel sorry for those in genuine need of affordable health care who must look around and see others who are just sponges on the system: a financial burden to the state. I get annoyed because it's the upright taxpayer who has to finance these schemes for the needy and not the state. Financially speaking, my company saw the real advantage to this switch and some of the employees. All too often this happens where the only one that really benefits is the company, who seem quite happy that many of their employees will take home less. Affordable health care is a long term issue that needs addressing in this country because it's those worst off who are affected.
